A swift response from the Guyana Fire Service resulted in the upper flat of an apartment building being saved but the occupants of the bottom flat are counting their losses.
At around 7.30 pm yesterday, the occupants of the 79 Dennis Street, Campbellville, Georgetown apartment building rushed out of their living quarters.
Vernita (only name given) last night told Stabroek News she was praying in the front room of the upper flat of the building when she noticed “a bright red downstairs.” According to the mother of two, she first thought it was a piece of clothing but later smelt something burning and recognized it was a fire.
