Drainage works have begun on the Sheriff Street Canal and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure is looking to complete the project by next Sunday.

Community Coordinator Neilson McKenzie yesterday explained to Stabroek News that desilting works started in Stone Avenue, Campbellville and moved to the Sheriff Street Canal. He stated that the canal is the main drain for that section of Campbellville and leading to the Railway Line Top canal.

He went on to explain that over the years because of the heavy siltation and vegetation in the canal, residents have suffered from flooding.

The project is a part of the $150M emergency funding for drainage works that central government approved earlier this year.
