Guyana to play USA at home for RAN 15s c/ships

Guyana is scheduled to tackle USA South for the 2017 Rugby America’s North (RAN) 15’s championship on July 1 at a home venue to be announced.

No longer will Guyana have to face holders, Mexico on their home turf for the title since a game Cayman Islands squad upset the Central American outfit (39-17) last Saturday leaving USA South at the top of the Northern Zone points table with 11.

The national team which defeated Barbados and Trinidad enroute to clinching the Southern Zone title, finished with 10 tournament points but have a higher seeding than USA South and therefore will to host the final.

“That is set in stone unless there is an agreement by Guyana, RAN and USA South to move the date,” said Terrence Grant, the Liaison Officer for Match Officials. “But the game will be played in Guyana.”

statement will be released soon by the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU). Efforts to contact President of the Union, Peter Green, proved futile.

Guyana was ranked number two by RAN after losing in the final to Mexico last year. USA South was unranked last year after they did not participate in the annual tourney. (Emmerson Campbell)
