Prison Staff this morning with the support of the members of the other services, reported for duty at the new holding area lusignan Prison.

A release from the prisons said that the staff were greeted by prisoners from the three holding areas and were offered apologies for their actions last night. They thanked the officers for not directing shots at them last night even though they misbehaved, the release said. Following that, they handed over 33 improvised weapons made from various materials that were used to construct the holding area, the release said.

Eighteen prisoners were injured in the melee which authorities said stemmed from an attempt to kill a suspected informant. The incident should lead to charges.
