The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB), will stage its annual ‘Igloo Festival’ today and tomorrow at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda.
The 5-a-side event, which will be contested on the venue’s artificial surface, is expected to feature several categories in the boys and girls’ divisions.
According to an official release from the GHB, “Under 10 (Mixed Categories), Under 14, Under 17 and Under 21 (boys and girls) and an Open men and women categories.”
The unique tournament is the only one of its kind as it is played on a miniature artificial hockey surface with rebound bounds around the perimeter. Since there is no full-scale artificial hockey pitch in Guyana, the tournament features the exciting 5-a-side format being played on the miniature sized field. The clubs down to participate in the tournament are Hikers, Old Fort, GCC and Saints. Matches begin at 10:00AM on both days and run until 10PM in the evening.
