First Lady, Sandra Granger, yesterday, received a courtesy call from officials of the Medgar Evers College, a college of The City University of New York (CUNY); Director of International Education, Prof. Eugene Pursoo and Interim Director for the Caribbean Research Centre, Dr. Maria DeLongoria.

A release from the Ministry of the Presidency said that the pair spoke about the scope of work to be covered under the USA-Caribbean International Education Consortium (UCIEC) project and discussed possible areas of collaboration with the Office of the First Lady.

Prof. Pursoo explained that the College, through the UCIEC initiative, has partnered with higher education institutions across the Caribbean to promote academic collaboration in order to help solve the developmental challenges of the countries of participating member institutions.

“This is the second time the consortium will be meeting and the University of Guyana has volunteered to host that meeting. We’re honoured to have the opportunity to meet with the First Lady. We’re hoping that as the consortium grows, we will be able to have the support of dignitaries in the region like the First Lady, who would look at what we’re trying to accomplish and contribute in any way she can towards the growth of this consortium,” he said.
