Venezuela envoy says goodbye

Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Greenidge (right) yesterday bade farewell to outgoing Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Reina Margarita Arratia Diaz. A Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement said that during her final courtesy call on the Foreign Minister, the Ambassador said that she was appreciative of her time spent in Guyana. Arratia Diaz’s tenure here coincided with a sharp deterioration of relations between Guyana and Venezuela occasioned by the issuing by Caracas in May 2015 of a maritime decree claiming the area where ExxonMobil had earlier that year announced a major oil find.
