Over two hundred pensioners in New Amsterdam received an early Christmas treat when they were given  a hot breakfast on Monday as they waited to collect their monthly pension at the New Amsterdam Post Office.

The Department of Public Information (DPI)  said that the gesture was organised by the New Amsterdam Mayor and Town Council through its social committee and received the full support of the New Amsterdam Prison Service and the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association.

The initiative was welcomed by the pensioners.

“I enjoyed it! I am glad the Municipality can do something like this and I thank God that we live to see the last month of this year,” 73-year-old Enid Beaton said, as she collected her breakfast, DPI said.
