Women who died in Marudi accident were sisters

The post-mortem examination for the two women who were knocked down and killed on Saturday afternoon on the Marudi Public Road, Soesdyle/Linden Highway will be conducted sometime today.

54-year-old Melva Lucas and 51-year-old Elsa Fernandes, who were sisters, and both resided in Grand Sand Road Soesdyke, were in a wooden bus shed waiting for transportation to go home when a car, PRR 3606, that was being driven by a 28-year-old resident of Kuru Kuru Village collided with the bus shed and struck them.

Police investigations revealed that while the car was driving north along the western side of Marudi Public Road at a fast rate, in a bid to avoid hitting a car, he swerved west, overtaking another vehicle, and lost control.
