(Jamiaca Gleaner) Outstanding Jamaican educator Keisha Hayle has been selected among the three recipients of this year’s Jamaica Education Task Force UK Meritorious Award for education.
Hayle, who came to national attention for transforming the St Andrew-based Padmore Primary School, which was labelled a failing institution, is to travel to the United Kingdom to collect the award next Saturday.
Hayle, who lost in her bid to become member of parliament for St Andrew North West in a by-election recently, told The Sunday Gleaner that she was selected by the Seymour Mattis-chaired body based on her work in education.
“They have been following Jamaica’s progress where education is concerned and they decided to give me this award, particularly because of what I did at Padmore Primary,” said Hayle as she expressed pride at being recognised.
She said that she did not know how she was selected for the award which recognises outstanding performance in education.
Hayle will travel to the UK on Thursday for the presentation ceremony, where an educator from the United Kingdom and another from the United States will also be awarded.
Jamaica’s High Commissioner to the UK Seth Ramocan, and UK Member of Parliament Dawn Butler, are among those slated to be at the awards ceremony.
