I noticed a prominently displayed advert on page 2 of the Sunday Stabroek dated April 8, 2018 with the headline `Western Scientific Sponsors Final Year UG Students’ Optometry Project’. In this announcement, Mr. Edwin Mackoon, President of Western Scientific, was quoted as saying that “We are 100% committed to Guyana and believe in Guyana’s very bright future…”
I write to remind the public that both Western Scientific and its Principal, Mr. Edwin Mackoon, were debarred by the Inter-American Development Bank for the period March 31, 2016 to October 15, 2020 for fraudulent practices (see https:// www.iadb.org/en/topics/transparency/integrity-at-the-idb-group/sanctioned-firms-and-individuals%2 C1293.html). Further, this sanction automatically means cross-debarment by other multilateral development banks under the Agreement for Mutual Enforcement of Debarment Decisions.
The Government and People of Guyana should steer very clear of this company.
