Squash players fail to register a win in doubles opening round

Guyana’s squash players, competing in the on the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast Australia, continued their torrid run after dropping all five of their doubles matchups yesterday.

Taylor Fernandes and Sunil Seth were the first to record losses, going down to Donna Urquhart and Cameron Pilley of Australia 4-11, 7-11 in the mixed doubles category.

The Guyanese duo in their second match, displayed much better form but the result was the same, losing to the Pakistan pair of Faiza Zafar and Farhan Zaman 8-11, 10-11.

Meanwhile, Mary Fung – A- Fat and Jason Ray Khalil were defeated by Indian pair Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal by a 3 – 11 score line in both sets.

Fernandes and Fung – A- Fat, playing in the female doubles category also lost to Samantha Cornett and Nikki Todd of Canada 4-11, 1-11 while also surrendering to Samantha Hennings and Marlene West of the Cayman Islands 10-11, 5-11 to end a disappointing day.

Khalil and Seth will compete in the men’s doubles today. (Royston Alkins)
