Father and son remanded over $4.7M armed robbery

A father and son accused of robbing a woman of close to $5 million in cash and jewellery, were yesterday remanded by a city court after they were jointly charged with the offence.

Richard Edwards, 48, of 30 School Street, Alberttown, Georgetown and his son, 26-year-old Imran Ali of 205 Campbell Street, Georgetown, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where they both pleaded not guilty to a charge of armed robbery.  The allegation against them is that on June 11, in the vicinity of Republic Park, East Bank Demerara, while armed with a knife, they robbed Toulula Singh of jewellery valued at $3 million and $1.7 million in cash, property of Isaiah Kumash.
