Two on assault charges after West Ruimveldt shop brawl

Afron Marshall, 26, a Superbet operator, from West Ruimveldt, and 27-year-old Nicketa Parks, a food vendor from East Bank Demerara, both appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday on assault charges.

The duo were charged with assaulting each other on July 14 at Lot 8 Front Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown. After the charge was read separately to both individuals, Marshall pleaded guilty with an explanation. Marshall explained that she was in her shop when an argument ensued between two individuals whom she did not identify. She said that Parks, who was in the shop, came up to her and held onto her wrist tightly, but she pushed off Park’s hand. Parks then became annoyed after she pushed off her hand and told the two individuals to get out of her shop. Parks then slapped Marshall and a scuffle ensued between the two women, the court was told.
