Citizenship Ministry to hold press conference on meeting with migrants

Winston Felix

Citizenship Minister, Winston Felix, is to hold a press conference today to address questions raised about a 29th August meeting at which he, and Deputy Director, State Assets Recovery Agency (SARA), Aubrey Heath-Retemyer met with Haitian and African nationals at the Critchlow Labour College.

Questions have been raised about Heath-Retemyer’s presence, given that his portfolio does not concern citizenship issues, and the fact that there was no public notice of the intended meeting. There is also the question of whether such meetings have been organised for migrants from other jurisdictions who may be experiencing issues.

Heath-Retemyer, through SARA’s Communication Officer, and again during an interview with Stabroek News, has sought to explain his presence. However, Felix has not gone on the record to address the concerns raised.
