Man gets three-month sentence for police outpost escape, larceny

Gary Grant

Gary Grant, the man who escaped from police custody while being held at Stabroek Police Outpost, was yesterday ordered to serve a three-month sentence after he was found guilty of four offences.

Grant, who was on trial before Magistrate Annette Singh in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Eleven, was sentenced to three months in jail for each of the four charges. The sentences, however, will run concurrently, and so Grant will only serve three months.

Two of the charges stated that on September 19th, in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market, George-town, he stole a cellphone, valued $35,000, from Nadina Maloney and on the same day, while in lawful custody at the Stabroek Police Outpost for the offence of simple larceny, he escaped.
