Gunmen seize large amount of gold at Matthews Ridge airstrip

The items recovered including the AK-47 rifle and two handguns

Three men were on Monday afternoon attacked and robbed of a quantity of raw gold at the Matthews Ridge Airstrip and three of the four suspects, including a policeman, have since been arrested.

Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan, in a press release yesterday afternoon confirmed the incident which occurred around 1.30pm.

Police sources told Stabroek News that over 2 kilogrammes of raw gold belonging to Jairam Sukuram, a gold miner of Barama River was stolen during the incident.
