Berbice man gets four years, $27M fine after 100-lbs ganja bust

Thirty-five-year-old Jairam Lallman was ordered to serve a four-year sentence yesterday after he admitted to having over 100 pounds of cannabis in his possession.

Lallman, of Lot 757 Fort Ordnance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice, was also ordered to pay a fine of $27,635,400, which is three times the street value of the narcotic.

The charge against Lallman, which was read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One, stated that on December 2nd, at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, he had in his possession 46.59 kilogrammes, equivalent to 102.713 pounds, of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
