Kitty man found guilty of murdering vagrant who went to club worker’s aid

Shawn Harris

Shawn Harris, the Kitty man who was charged with murdering a vagrant in 2017, was yesterday found guilty of the offence by a 12-member jury.

Harris, 31, was charged with murdering Sunil Singh, called ‘Grey,’ on February 5th, 2017, at Owen Street, Kitty.

Following almost four hours of deliberation, the 12-member mixed jury returned with a unanimous guilty verdict. Harris’ attorney, Maxwell McKay, after the delivery of the verdict, stated that they would not request a probation report to be presented ahead of sentencing. Instead, McKay told the court that his client is a father of two and has been on remand for the last two years. The attorney further noted that if his client is to be given a chance, he would change his ways with remedial training and the relevant counselling. He closed by asking that the court be lenient.
