Parfaite Harmonie youth dies after Vreed-en-Hoop collision

A young Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara resident is now dead after he collided with a hire car along the Vreed-en-Hoop Public Road early yesterday morning.

Nial Persaud, 22, of Lot 635 Parfaite Harmonie, sustained severe head injuries during the accident, which occurred around 12.25 am.

He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the motorcar, a 44-year-old resident of Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara, was taken into police custody to “assist with investigations.” The driver was also administered a breathalyser test, which did not detect any alcohol content in his breath.

Enquiries, the police said, revealed that at the time of the accident, the hire car, HC 4991, was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the road.

Persaud, they said, was proceeding in the same direction but from the rear.

The police said the driver has claimed that with the use of his trafficator, he indicated that he was turning south when Persaud allegedly collided with his car.

As a result of the impact, Persaud fell onto the road surface.

Shortly before the accident, this newspaper was told, Persaud’s mother had called him to enquire what time he would be returning home.
