Growing local

UncappeD Marketplace this year saw the New Guyana Marketing Corporation arranging for many more farmers to showcase their fresh produce.

The displays and packaging were impressive.

Particularly outstanding was a 12-year-old girl from Berbice who grew her own purple pearl onions and beets. She was there with her mother who is also a farmer. My friend and I were her first customers and she proudly sold us her produce. She sold out long before her mother. It was a pity that the media and officials did not seem to pay her and her produce more attention.
