Woman charged with killing husband gets bail release after 18 months

Melissa Playter

A woman was granted bail by Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall after being on remand for over 18 months for allegedly killing her husband.  Bail in the sum $300,000 was granted yesterday morning at the High Court to Melissa Playter, who is charged with manslaughter.

Playter, 25, of Lot 41 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, who is a mother of three, was charged in December of 2018 with the murder of Victor Roberts, of the same address. He was the father of her youngest child. The charge was later reduced to manslaughter, with the help of her attorney, Sanjeev Datadin.

The condition for the granting of bail was that Playter lodge all her travel documents with the court. However, due to her only having a birth certificate, it was the only document that could be handed over to the court.
