President, First Lady test negative for COVID-19

President David Granger and First Lady Sandra Granger have both tested negative for the novel coronavirus disease.

The President and First Lady were on Monday tested for COVID-19 and those results were returned yesterday. Head of the Press Service Unit at the Ministry of the Presidency, Ariana Gordon provided the update to Stabroek News which noted that both Mr and Mrs Granger’s test results came back as negative.

President Granger and Mrs Granger had their samples for testing taken on Monday by health officials. It was stated then that the tests were administered out of an abundance of caution though they showed no signs or symptoms of the virus. According to Gordon the first couple had no known exposure to the virus or had contact with any positive case of the virus.

The president had advised persons to adhere to the precautionary measures that were put in place since the initial outbreak in Guyana in March.
