Manslaughter charge recommended for accused in fatal Kilcoy stabbing

Alexander Yhap

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has recommended that the accused in the fatal stabbing of fisherman Alexander Yhap be charged with manslaughter.

The suspect, also a fisherman, 21, is expected to appear tomorrow in a Berbice court, where the charge will be instituted against him.

Yhap, also known as ‘John’, 25, of Lot 84 Kilcoy, Corentyne, sustained three stab wounds during a fight at a Superbet two streets away from his house. The two men, who had previously fought, are reported to have had a dispute stemming from Yhap asking a girl to plait his hair. Although the girl is a minor, the accused is reported to have been interested in her and took exception to Yhap seeking her services.
