Months after the boom of a crane collapsed onto the Georgetown Municipal Abattoir, repairs have commenced on the structure, according to acting Town Clerk Sherry Jerrick.

In late February, a crane belonging to John Fernandes Limited came into contact with a section of the abattoir located at Water Street. Following the incident, the Mayor and City Council had met with the company to find a way forward and have the building repaired.

When Stabroek News contacted the Town Clerk on Tuesday for an update on the repairs to the facility, Jerrick said that work had commenced approximately two to three weeks ago. “The abattoir is currently being repaired but because of the inclement weather, they have not done anything there for the past two days,” she informed.
