Rank charged over ganja found at prison officers’ quarters

A Prison Officer was recently charged over the discovery of cannabis at the Prison Officers’ Quarters, located at the Lusignan Prison Officers’ Sports Club.

The Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday said Director of Prisons Gladwin Samuels briefed Minister Robeson Benn on the discovery.

In a press release, the Ministry said Samuels reported that a search was conducted and 894 grammes of suspected cannabis was found. At the time of the search, two Prison Officers were occupying the quarters. They were questioned about the drug but denied knowledge of it. Both ranks were arrested and taken into police custody.
