Pedestrian hospitalised after struck by intoxicated ministry driver

A pedestrian is now hospitalised after he was struck by an intoxicated Ministry of Social Protection driver who was speeding along Plantain Walk Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD) on Monday night.

Basil Persaud, a 57-year-old salesman of Lot ‘C’ Middle Street, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, was crossing the road when the accident occurred.

Police investigations reveal that at approximately 8:20 pm, a minibus bearing registration number PWW 1958 was proceeding north along the western side of Plantain Walk Public Road, WBD, at a fast rate, when the left front side of the vehicle collided with Persaud who was allegedly crossing the road from east to west. As a result of the collision, Persaud fell onto the road causing him to sustain injuries about his body.
