Gov’t overpaid $145m on Leguan stelling contract last year

During 2019 the Government of Guyana made nearly $200 million in overpayments on four contracts, including for the Leguan Stelling, an increase over the $166 million overpaid in 2018 on 157 contracts.

According to the 2019 Auditor General’s report which was laid in the National Assembly yesterday, government made overpayments amounting to $199.381 million on contracts administered by the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Public Telecommunications, Guyana Defence Force and the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) in 2019.

Included in the $199.381M are amounts totaling $145 million and $25.529 million which were overpaid on the rehabilitation of the Leguan Stelling, and expansion of offices at the Civil Defence Commission Headquarters, respectively.
