Eighty-nine percent of village councils failed to submit reports to the Ministry of the Presidency on how they spent $203.9m in grants for the year 2019.

This was one of the key findings of the Auditor General in his report on the public accounts which was recently tabled in the National Assembly.

None of the 61 councils in Region One (Barima/Waini) submitted reports. The same was the case for the 24 councils in Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni). Seven out of the 10 councils in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) submitted reports.
