Over 70 households in Little Diamond, on the East Bank Demerara, were affected by flooding on New Year’s Eve due to a breach of a river defense close to the area.

This was disclosed by the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) Senior Response Officer Captain Salim October, who said the breach occurred last Thursday night.

At that time, according to the CDC’s Facebook page, 40 families were affected. Following further assessments that were conducted, that figure was revised to between 70 and 80 households were affected.
