DHB and barge owner reach agreement on compensation for bridge damage

An agreement has been reached between the Demerara Harbour Bridge Company and Deonarine Sookram, the owner of the tug and barge, Rediston and Surtrans, that crashed into the harbour bridge last month.

Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill on Tuesday told Stabroek News that an agreement has been reached in which the owner will be “standing the cost of repairs” carried out on the bridge subsequent to the crash.

Stabroek News understands that the cost of the repairs is pegged at $16 million. Edghill pointed out that the Harbour Bridge Company and the barge and tug owner are finalising their agreement.
