Alcoholic Essequibo Coast pensioner drowned, autopsy finds

A post-mortem examination has determined that Deodat (only name), the alcoholic pensioner whose lifeless body was found floating in a trench at Hampton Court, Essequibo Coast last Saturday, died from drowning and cirrhosis of the liver.

The 74-year-old Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast resident, who was also known as “John”, is believed to have drowned sometime between January 6th and January 9th, 2021.

Stabroek News previously reported that Deodat was last seen alive by his daughter at around 5.30 pm on January 6th, when he left her home.
