Four plead guilty after ERC takes legal action over incitement

The Ethnic Relations Commis-sion (ERC) has instituted charges against four woman who have allegedly committed offences capable of resulting in racial or ethnic violence or hatred among the Guyanese people.

Tiffany Greene, Lashona Chester, Stacy Smarty, and Glynis Gibons, all appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday where the charge was read. They all pleaded guilty to the offence which stated that during March 2020, they used Facebook to excite hostility or ill-will on the basis of race. 

The offenders offered their apologies to the Magistrate who subsequently issued them a stern warning before handing down fines of $100,000 each.
