In an effort to address the water issues along the East Bank of Demerara, the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal on Monday announced that $40 million will be put towards the construction of a new well in the Providence area.

According to a Department of Public Information (DPI) article, Minister Croal made this disclosure at an outreach in Little Diamond/Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, which was hosted by the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC). He also informed that the well will be constructed by the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and that works will begin soon. “The resources have been made available to GWI. They are currently working at Farm; when they complete that project then they will move to put in that new well at Providence. The intention is to have a complete interconnectivity so that everyone will be receiving the same pressure,” Croal assured.

It was also mentioned that GWI will be producing water filter media for the water treatment plants so that residents can receive a better quality of water, come May.
