Arrest warrant issued for alleged CANU impersonator

An arrest warrant was yesterday issued for Kevin McDonald, the former police officer who allegedly pretended to be a Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officer.

McDonald, 37, of Nabaclis Public Road, East Coast Demerara, was detained more than a week ago after he tried to arrest Ryan Gonsalves while allegedly pretending to be a CANU officer. He was charged with two counts of abduction and was instructed to attend court yesterday to answer to the charges. However, he failed to do so and as such, Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, presiding at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court issued a warrant for his arrest.
