Lawsuit in Nigeria against Shell raises question of oil metering

A recent lawsuit against Royal Dutch Shell in Nigeria has raised the issue of the metering of oil produced.

The Anglo-Dutch oil major has been sued by Aiteo Eastern E&P over a claim that it underreported oil exports and problems in relation to a pipeline.

Questions have been raised here about the extent of the monitoring by Guyana and its regulatory agencies aboard the Liza Destiny which is pumping up the country oil offshore. The Guyana team is supposed to be able to detect the quantities being extracted on a daily basis and whether this matches ExxonMobil’s figures.
