Supply man convicted of death by dangerous driving fined for five related offences

Quacy Decunha, the driver who was recently sentenced for causing the death of a motorcyclist, along the Craig Public Road, East Bank Demerara was yesterday fined on five traffic charges.

Decunha of Supply, East Bank Demerara, appeared virtually before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court, yesterday when he changed his plea to traffic charges in relation to the fatal accident.

Originally, Decunha pleaded not guilty when he was read the charges by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Providence Magis-trate’s Court. However, yesterday, he pleaded guilty to failure to render assistance, for which he was fined $40,000 or eight weeks imprisonment; failure to stop at the scene after an accident, for which he was fined $40,000 or eight weeks imprisonment; failure to report the accident, for which he was fined $35,000 or eight weeks imprisonment; for driving without a motor licence, he was fined $20,000 or eight weeks imprisonment, and for driving an uninsured motor vehicle, he was also fined $20,000 or eight weeks imprisonment.
