Dear Editor,
I endorse John Mair’s “Nominations for Order of Democracy” (Mar 3). First, a list of criteria has to be established to determine eligibility for the nomination. The names he mentions would meet virtually any criteria for the award.
I would like to add a few names – The Canadian Ambassador Lilian Chatterjee, the late Owen Arthur, and former Jamaica’s Prime Minister Bruce Golding. And of course, there were several local Guyanese and a few in the diaspora who worked behind the scenes to get the international community to pressure GECOM and the coalition to do the right thing.
