Representatives of the Diplomatic Community on Monday participated in the Canadian High Commission International Women’s Day #ChoosetoChallenge activity. Participants made their remarks in their native languages. The Canadian High Commission in a release said that each Head of Mission, as well as First Lady Arya Ali (front centre) and Minister of Human Services Vindhya Persaud (fourth from left), are committed to challenging the barriers to gender equality.
The High Commission also stated that it will continue to encourage conversations about gender equality with a virtual panel discussion themed “Migrant Women, COVID-19 and Gender Based Violence”, that will feature Head of Development Cooperation at the High Commission, Janine Cocker; UNICEF Area Representative – Guyana and Suriname, Nicolas Pron; Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) Country Director, Alex Theran, and will be moderated by President of the Guyana Press Association, Nazima Raghubir.
There will also be collaboration with the Office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security to share via the High Commission’s and Government’s social media pages, the stories of women who have emerged from difficult circumstances as Guyana celebrates the triumphs and accomplishments of women. This medium will also be used to share other International Women’s Day messages, videos and images from the High Commission and its partners to highlight #ChoosetoChallenge inequalities.”
