Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha on Friday assured flooded farmers that emergency works to repair the dams and clear clogged channels in the Mahaicony area would begin over the weekend.
The Department of Public Information (DPI) reported that Mustapaha made the commitment during an outreach to the Region Five community to get a first-hand look at the conditions there.
It noted that intermittent heavy rainfall there over the last few weeks has left several farmers inundated and made recently rehabilitated dams impassable.
