World Environment Day tree planting

Indian High Commissioner to Guyana Dr. K.J. Srinivasa (at right) is seen planting a palm tree at the Indian Monument Gardens to celebrate World Environment Day. In observance of World Environment Day, the Commissioner also attended a brief ceremony held at the Promenade Garden where other trees were also planted, as advised by the United Nations Environment. According to the United Nations, the theme for the observance in 2021 is ‘Reimagine. Recreate. Restore,’ with the focal point being ecosystem restoration. “Ecosystem restoration means preventing, halting and reversing this damage—to go from exploiting nature to healing it,” the UN has said. It has advised planting a tree, cleaning up riverbanks or beaches to help restore our ecosystems and heal the planet.
