Last Tuesday, several members of the Cuban Medical Brigade who will shortly leave Havana for Guyana were received at the Guyana Embassy in Cuba by Ambassador Halim Majeed.
According to a statement on the Facebook page of the Guyana Embassy, accompanying the group were Dr. María Caridad Carbón, Havana-based Specialist at MINSAP’s Central Unit of Medical Collaboration, with responsibility for Guyana, and Dr. Gerardo Machado, English Professor of the Medical Brigade, based in Havana.
The statement said that the Medical Brigade traveling to Guyana comprises 66 Specialists – 30 females, 36 males. The average age is 45 years. All of the 66 have second degrees and other post-graduate qualifications and all have substantial overseas experience. The team includes (a) Nurses specialized in Intensive Care, (b) Health Specialists in Radiology and Transfusion Medicine, and (c) Pharmacists, Dentists, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists, among others.
“There was a lively exchange between the Group and Ambassador Majeed, who wished them a pleasant and successful stay in Guyana. The Specialists expressed the view that this act of collaboration will further deepen the already strong ties that exist between Guyana and Cuba”, the statement added.
