A carpenter, who police say was found with a .38 pistol and five matching rounds at a city hotel, was yesterday remanded to prison on charges of illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.

Julian Dow, 49, of Lot 63 Perth Village, East Coast Demerara, made his appearance before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in a Georgetown court.

The charge stated that on August 18, at Hinck Street, Georgetown, Dow had in his possession a Bryco .380 pistol, without being the holder of a firearm licence. On the same day and time, he is also alleged to have had in his possession five live .380 rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.
