Man freed in 12 lbs of cannabis case

A man who was charged with the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking was on Friday found not guilty following a trial.

Benny Cumberbatch was found not guilty of trafficking 12 pounds of cannabis by Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty who presided over the trial at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Cumberbatch’s attorney-at-law, Bernard DaSilva, told the court that his client was innocent. However, the Prosecution told the court that on December 13, 2018, the police were acting on information when they stopped a car, HC 6869, in the vicinity of Little Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara. The car was being driven by Cumberbatch at the time.
