Brazilian national stabbed to death at Baramita

A Brazilian national was fatally stabbed on Thursday by a fellow miner with whom he had been drinking at Central Baramita, in the North West District of Region One.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday said that the man, only identified by the alias “Neguon” or “Negung,” was fatally stabbed as a result of an argument. Up to yesterday the police were still searching for the suspect.

The police noted that the two men had been involved in gold mining at the Guyana-Venezuela border. However, the men had a misunderstanding over a quantity of raw gold, which led to them frequently threatening each other. The police said the threats were never reported.
