MMZ thrashes Intruders by 225 runs but loses to Majestics

Derick Narine smashed an unbeaten 103 for majestics.

Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) etched their names into the record books of the New York National Cricket League/ Rockaway Group T20 league after beating Intruders by 225 runs. MMZ won the toss and batted, posting 265 for four from their allotted 20 overs before routing Intruders for a paltry 40 in 11 overs.

MMZ’s innings was bolstered by a top-heavy performance led by Troy Mars who clubbed five sixes and eight fours in 82 from 40 balls before he was caught and bowled by Anthony Roopnarine.

Mars’ opening partner, Ushardeva Balgobin,  raced to 71 from 39 balls. His innings was laced with six sixes and seven fours.

Also cashing in was Looknauth Chinkoo who smashed six sixes and five fours during his 32-ball 77. Intruders did not help themselves, gifting 18 extras.

In the chase, only Dinesh Bishun managed double figures with 12 from 15 balls. Joe Knights led the bowling attack, picking up three wickets for just nine runs while Kelvin Shewprashad took 2-17 and Mark Fredericks 1-14.

Two batsmen were forced to retire hurt while mix ups between the wickets resulted in two run outs.

Meanwhile, in the second encounter, Majestic had the better of MMZ, winning by nine wickets in a high-scoring affair.

MMZ again won the toss and batted, posting 181 for five while Majestic romped to 186 for one in 14.3 overs in reply.

Derick Narine led the chase brilliantly after losing opening partner, Chris Patandin for one.

He ended on an unbeaten 103 from 45 balls, with eight sixes and nine fours.

He shared an unbroken partnership of 170 with Wasim Haslim, who struck three sixes and six fours during his 37-ball 56 not out.

Earlier, Ryan Girdharry troubled the MMZ batsmen, picking up 3-25. Mars top scored with 49 from 42 balls and added 74 for the second wicket with Chinkoo who made 40 from 27 balls. Shewprashad chipped in with 35 not out from 14 balls, highlighted by four sixes and a four. Balgobin also got among the runs with 27 runs from 12 balls.
