Driver in fatal Bel Air Public Road hit and run to be sentenced

A man who was involved in the hit and run which caused the death of pedestrian, Whitfield James, is expected to be sentenced next Wednesday.

Trevor Benn was taken before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court where he answered to seven charges including causing the death of James.

It is alleged that on August 1, at Number 22 Bel Air Public Road, West Coast Berbice, he drove motorcar PWW 9799, in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of  James. He was also charged with driving an unlicensed, uncertified, and uninsured motor vehicle. In addition he was charged with failing to stop after an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to render assistance. He pleaded guilty to causing the death of James and driving an unlicensed motor vehicle but denied the other charges.
