A Guyanese fisherman is missing and feared dead after he reportedly fell overboard in Surinamese waters during a scuffle with another fisher last Tuesday.

The missing man is Vibert Bacchus, 33, of Lot 23 Section ‘A’, Number 79 Village, Corentyne.

According to his mother, Waneeta Shivgobin, 53, the fisherman relocated to Paramaribo, Suriname, over two and a half years ago. Shivgobin said that she was only informed on Friday that her son was missing. “Based on what I hear, they had a misunderstanding but then them call a next lady and tell her her son drown but when we hear is na she son is me son,” the frustrated woman said.
