India U19s beat West Indies U19s by 108 runs

Despite a fighting half century from Matthew Nandu, India Under-19s easily whipped West Indies Under-19s by 108 runs in the first of their International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup warm up match at the Providence National Stadium Sunday.

Playing on a golf course like surface at the National Stadium and under glorious sunshine, India U19 won the toss and opted to take first strike, piling up 278 for six from their allotted 50 overs.

West Indies U19s were then bundled out for 170 in 42.5 overs with Nandu top scoring with 52 from 100 balls, laced with five boundaries before he was caught at deep square leg by Kaushal Tambe off of left arm spinner, Aneeshwar Gautam (2-37).

The Everest Cricket Club opener shared a first-wicket stand of 31 with Shaqkere. Parris who made eight before falling to right arm quick, Garv Sangwan (2-18) off the last ball of the ninth over.

Teddy Bishop’s stay at the crease was short-lived as, after stroking one boundary, he was then trapped leg before wicket to Sangwan.

Off-spinner, Manav Parakh then worked his way through the middle-order to return 3-33 from his 10 overs.

Fellow off-spinner, Tambe, followed up and maneuvered through the lower order with Johann Layne one of his victims.

Layne, who muscled two sixes, one of which landed several steps up the Orange Stand over long on and three fours, eventually popping a simple return catch to Tambe. He made 33.

Tambe also accounted for Carlon Bowen-Tuckett who made 20 from 42 balls to end with 3-30 from 4.5 overs.

Earlier, it was the power hitting of Nishant Sindhu that motored India U19s to their competitive total. The left-handed batsman smacked three sixes and six fours during his unbeaten 71-ball, 62.

Sindhu added 82 for the fifth wicket with  Rajangand Bawa (12) and 44 for the sixth wicket with Tambe (21).

Skipper, Yash Dull also played a vital innings, scoring 52 from 69 balls, laced with six fours and two sixes while left hander, Siddharth Yadav hammered five sixes and two fours during his 54-ball 51. The duo added 94 for the third wicket.

Layne picked up 3-51 while Nandu, Anderson Mahase and McKenny Clarke picked up one wicket each. West Indies U19 also gifted 35 extras.
