Good Hope woman gets two years for million-dollar theft from mining companies

A woman charged with stealing over $1 million from her former employers was on Monday sentenced to two years behind bars after being found guilty at the conclusion of her trial.

Reshma Deoroop, of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, was on trial for the larceny of the sum of $1,200,897, which was the property of Tesouro Resources and Grey Wolf Resources.

The charge against her stated that between January 30, 2019 and April 14, 2020, at Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown, Deoroop, being employed as a clerk or servant by Tesouro Resources and Grey Wolf Resources, stole the money.

She had pleaded not guilty to the charge on her first appearance and was granted bail. Following the trial, Magistrate Rhondell Weever found her guilty and sentenced her.

The prosecutor, attorney Latchmie Rahamat, presented 12 witnesses who each gave evidence against Deoroop.
